2020-21 Student Start Date (August 24, 2020)
Posted 7/3/19

For the 2020-21 school year is anticipated that students will start school on August 24, 2020. The student start day for the 2019-20 school year is September 3, 2019.

As you may recall, in winter 2017, the Calendar Review Committee, comprised of certificated and classified staff, parents, district administrators, and employee bargaining units, recommended starting school prior to Labor Day beginning with the 2020-21 school year. The calendar provides multiple benefits to students. An overview of the student benefits a collegiate calendar provides can be found below online:

Newport-Mesa Unified School District and the Newport-Mesa Federation of Teachers (NMFT) continue to negotiate the teacher work calendar.

You may find the 2019-20 school calendar and the 2019-20 Schedule of School Activities on the NMUSD website, www.nmusd.us (click on the “calendars” icon). The 2020-21 calendar will be posted online when negotiations are completed and the calendar is adopted by the NMUSD Board of Education.
