As the Fourth of July quickly approaches, Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) encourages families to stay mindful of the guidelines provided by the City of Costa Mesa and City of Newport Beach.

All fireworks are illegal in Newport Beach, including the “safe and sane” fireworks. Fireworks with the State of California’s “safe and sane” logo are allowable in Costa Mesa, but please exercise caution even when using these legal fireworks in Costa Mesa.

Safe alternatives to handling fireworks include attending a professional display, such as the Independence Day Community Celebration at the Orange County Fairgrounds, events in Newport Beach, or celebrating with glow sticks, confetti poppers, or colored streamers.

For more firework safety basics, please refer to this guide [English | Spanish], developed collaboratively by several police and fire departments. To report illegal fireworks activity, contact the Costa Mesa Police Department at (714) 754-5252 or the Newport Beach Police Department at (949) 644-3717.

NMUSD wishes all our students, families, and community members a fun-filled, safe, and memorable Fourth of July. Thank you for doing your part to keep our neighborhoods safe and our celebrations joyful.
